At Britam, we respect your privacy and are committed to protecting the personal data of all candidates across our operations in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, South Sudan, Malawi, and Mozambique. This Privacy Statement explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the safeguards we apply during the recruitment process.

  • Data Collection & Purpose: We collect personal information including identification details, contact details, educational background, professional experience, and other relevant data for the purpose of evaluating your suitability for current and future employment opportunities within Britam. This data is submitted voluntarily by you through our Talent Acquisition System.

  • Legal Basis & Compliance: Britam adheres to applicable data protection laws in each country of operation, including the Kenyan Data Protection Act, 2019, and aligns with international standards such as the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Where required, we may process your data based on your consent, legitimate interest, or legal obligation.

  • Data Sharing, Access & Cross-Border Transfers: Your personal data may be accessed and processed by authorized Britam personnel, affiliated entities, and trusted third-party service providers involved in the recruitment process. Britam will share your personal information with third parties to provide pre-employment background screening services to Britam for the purpose of verifying your employment history, academic background, reference check & check with government agencies. Your employment with Britam is contingent upon completion of a satisfactory background check. Where data is transferred across borders, Britam ensures that appropriate safeguards are in place in compliance with relevant data protection laws. We may also disclose information to regulators or authorities where required by law.

  • Data Security: We implement robust technical and organizational measures to protect your data from unauthorized access, alteration, or misuse. Access to your online profile is secured with confidential login credentials provided exclusively to you. You are responsible for keeping these credentials private and safeguarding your account.

  • Retention & Future Consideration: Your profile may be retained for a reasonable period to consider you for future roles, unless you request deletion. Britam will use this information professionally and solely for recruitment purposes. If you are successful and employed by Britam, your data will form part of your employment record.

Candidate Rights

You have the right to:
  • Be informed about how your data is collected and used

  • Access and review your personal data

  • Correct, delete or request correction or deletion of inaccurate information

  • Object to or restrict certain types of data processing

  • Withdraw consent where applicable (where processing is based on consent)

  • Request portability of your data; and

  • Not be subject to a decision based solely on automated processing, where applicable.
